Lord Murugan is the temple's presiding deity. He is referred to as Kurinji Aandavar here because Lord Murugan is known as the God of Hills in Tamil. This temple comprises the Lords Vinayaka, Vishnu, Hanuman, Garuda, and Navagraha sub-shrines. This temple was built in 1936 by a British woman who changed her name to Leelavathy because she was deeply involved in Hinduism. Tourists visiting Kodaikanal on vacation will also include this temple in their itinerary. This temple is under Palani Murugan Temple's authority, and its officials monitor and administer it.
The Kurinji temple is not simply another place of worship; it has a long and storied history. This temple's intriguing narrative is that it was erected by Lady Leelavathi Ramanathan, an Australian lady married to Ponnambalam Ramanathan, Ceylon's Solicitor General. She was so enthralled and touched by Hindu teachings that she decided to convert to Hinduism and embrace the culture. Lady Ramanathan's husband died in 1936, and she erected this shrine to honour his memory.
In addition to the main deity, Lord Muruga, there are idols of nine planet gods. The elaborate carvings and gorgeous paintings around the temple are stunning and will leave you in awe. The Tamil terms Kurinji and Andavar mean 'hill area' and 'God,' respectively. As a result, the name itself signifies a connection between the hill and its god.
The Coakers hike, near Kodaikanal Lake, is mystical amidst the clouds. Nature lovers and photographers should not miss this location, as the scenery and atmosphere are unparalleled. The boardwalk is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is near Kodaikanal Lake.
A kilometre-long stretch or footpath is an excellent location for sightseeing and walking. Tourists gather to see the dawn and sunset. The walkway begins at Van Allen Hospital near St. Peter's Church. Fences on each side of the road provide protection and safety. Lieutenant Coaker built this boardwalk down the steep mountain slope in 1872. The Pambar River Valley is located on the southeast side of the path. If the weather is good, guests may see Dolphin's Nose Point in the south and Periyakulam and Madurai from the viewpoint. If you're lucky, you'll see your shadow in the clouds with a rainbow halo. This phenomenon is known as the Brocken spectre.
Sliced mangoes and chaats like bhel are sold in nearby cafes. Other businesses offer inexpensive warm clothing, mementos, and souvenirs.
An observatory along the path offers a sharper and broader perspective of the surroundings. It is best to arrive around 2.30 p.m. to have a decent look before the mist descends. The entrance fee is Rs 10 per person and Rs 20 for the telescopic observatory. Photography, however, incurs an additional fee of Rs. 30.
In 1863, Sir Vere Henry Levinge, the Collector of Madurai, oversaw the construction of a 3-meter-deep, star-shaped artificial lake. This lake, known as the heart of Kodaikanal, has long been a popular filming location in Bollywood. It is the best spot to relax and refresh.
It is starfish-shaped but has four points. It is centrally located in Kodaikanal and flanked by the lush green hills of the northern Palani Hills range, which serves as the lake's primary watershed. This lake has an area of around 65 acres (26 hectares). The highest depth is 10 meters, while the average is 2 meters.

Silver Cascade is one of the most prominent attractions in Kodaikanal, a town known for its breathtaking natural environment. Watch sparkling water fall down a 180-foot (55-meter) cliff while monkeys play mischievously on treacherous rocks. The Silver Cascade is the result of excess water flowing from Kodaikanal Lake. Silver Cascade, located on Laws Ghat Road, is said to have low water quality, making it unsuitable for bathing.
This spectacular waterfall is a popular destination for scenic views of the falls and the surrounding area. Kodaikanal, a hill station, provides excellent vacation possibilities for its visitors. Silver Cascade is one of Kodaikanal's most prominent tourist attractions. It is located on the Ghat road, about 8 kilometres from Kodaikanal. It may be viewed when one approaches Kodaikanal along the Madurai-Kodaikanal route. The Silver Cascade, which is 180 feet high, was formed when Kodai Lake overflowed over a steep rock. Frothy water cascading down between stacks of boulders produces a captivating image that provides tourists with a refreshing rest. The fall's beauty and rich flora contribute to the area's overall appeal. It also gives travellers fantastic picture possibilities. The water is also supposed to have medical properties; bathing in the Silver Cascade water is quite popular.
